MARI LAPPALAINEN

Art Director

Mari Lappalainen began her entertainment design career in Finland. She earned a degree as an exhibition artisan from a vocational school in Finland, which led her to work for the leading set building and design company in Finland. Mari's interest in visual and narrative story telling brought her to the prestigious Wimbledon College of Art in London, where she received a first honors Bachelor’s Degree in Set Design for Film. From there Mari came to study at the American Film Institute on a full scholarship, including the Tom Yoda scholarship. Mari received her Master of Fine Arts in Production Design from the American Film Institute. After earning her MFA, Mari designed for feature-length films and television shows. Mari was invited to join the IATSE – Art Director's Guild in 2016 and remains a member of ADG as a Local 800 Art Director. Mari's projects include MARVEL's Antman and the Wasp; Venom; the upcoming feature film, Call of the Wild; and the new HBO series Lovecraft Country. Mari served as Art Director on Pippa Bianco's narrative work Share, starring Taissa Farmiga, which won multiple prizes, including the Cannes Cinefondation Prize. She also served as Art Director on the short film Awaken, which won Best Production Design at the LA Film Festival.
