Sooanh Oh

Violinist

Violinist Sooanh Oh is an internationally accomplished performer and educator whose distinguished career spans leading musical institutions and festivals across Europe and South Korea.​

Sooanh studied under Kanghoon Kim and Sunny Lee in South Korea, graduating valedictorian from Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School, where she received the Yeonho Arts Award at both institutions. She continued her studies at Seoul National University under Ju-Young Baek, graduating with distinction. She subsequently earned a Master's degree at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin under the guidance of Eva Schöneweiß, followed by a second Master's degree in String Quartet at the Universität der Künste Berlin under the tutelage of the internationally acclaimed Artemis Quartet. To further develop her artistry as a soloist, she completed the Konzertexamen (Advanced Performance Diploma) at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim under the guidance of Viviane Hagner.

Demonstrating exceptional musical talent from an early age, Sooanh has earned top prizes at numerous competitions, including First Prize at the Sungjeong Competition, First Prize at the Baroque Music Competition, First Prize at the Segye Ilbo Competition, and top honors at the Ewha Kyunghyang Music Competition and the Alice Samter Foundation Competition, among others. During her time at Seoul Arts High School and Seoul National University, she was selected as the student representative soloist, performing with orchestras to widespread critical acclaim.

A committed orchestral musician as well, Sooanh served as a Ferenc Fricsay Scholar with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and held positions with the Dresdner Philharmonie and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has performed extensively throughout Europe under internationally renowned conductors including Kirill Petrenko, Zubin Mehta, and Valery Gergiev. She has also been invited to perform at internationally renowned festivals such as the Verbier Festival and the Zermatt Festival in Switzerland. In South Korea, she has participated in the Pyeongchang Music Festival, the Tongyeong International Music Festival, and the Seoul International Music Festival, further establishing her reputation as a versatile and internationally active performer.

Upon returning to South Korea, Sooanh served as Principal Violinist of the Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra. She currently serves as an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Orchestral Instruments at the College of Music, Seoul National University, and teaches at Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School. Alongside her teaching responsibilities, she maintains an active performing career as a member of the Wald Ensemble
