Sooanh Oh

Violinist

Violinist Sooanh Oh studied under professors Kanghoon Kim and Sunny Lee in Korea, graduating valedictorian from Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School, where she received the Yeonho Arts Award at both institutions. She continued her studies at Seoul National University under Professor Ju-young Baek, graduating with distinction.

She subsequently earned a Master's degree at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, followed by a second Master's degree in String Quartet at the Universität der Künste Berlin under the tutelage of the internationally acclaimed Artemis Quartet. To further develop her artistry as a soloist, she completed the Konzertexamen (Advanced Performance Diploma) at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim under the guidance of Viviane Hagner.

Demonstrating exceptional musical talent from an early age, Oh has earned top prizes at numerous competitions, including First Prize at the Sungjeong Competition, First Prize at the Baroque Music Competition, First Prize at the Segye Ilbo Competition, and top honors at the Ewha Kyunghyang Music Competition and the Alice Samter Foundation Competition, among others. During her time at Seoul Arts High School and Seoul National University, she was selected as the student representative soloist, performing with orchestras to widespread critical acclaim.

A committed orchestral musician as well, Oh served as a Ferenc Fricsay Scholar with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and held positions with the Dresdner Philharmonie and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has performed extensively throughout Europe under distinguished conductors including Kirill Petrenko, Zubin Mehta, and Valery Gergiev. She has also been invited to perform at internationally renowned festivals such as the Verbier Festival and the Zermatt Festival in Switzerland. In Korea, she has participated in the Pyeongchang Music Festival, the Tongyeong International Music Festival, and the Seoul International Music Festival, further establishing her presence as a versatile and accomplished performer.

Following her return to Korea, Oh served as Principal Violinst of the Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra. She currently holds teaching positions at Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, and Seoul National University, while continuing her performing career as a member of Wald Ensemble.
